DISASTER MEDICINE CERTIFICATION
EXAMINATION DATES THROUGH THE YEAR 2011

Revised January 2009

The Disaster Medicine Examination is offered in a computer-based testing (CBT) format in test centers across the United States. You may choose the examination date that best fits your schedule from the "testing window" below. A "testing window" usually spans three (3) weeks. Most test centers are open Monday - Friday, with a few open on weekends. Once your examination application has been approved, you will be sent a password and directions for registering for the examination on the date and at the test center of your choice.

After passing the CBT component, candidates take an exam using the Medical Education Technologies, Inc (METI®) patient simulator. Each METI simulator simulate bleeding, breathing, talking, blinking and numerous other physiological characteristics to simulate various medical emergency scenarios including heart attack, drug overdose, vehicular accidents, effects from weapons of mass destruction, bio-terrorism and other traumatic injuries. This second component of the Disaster Medicine Examination employs the advanced testing technology utilized by NASA, Center for Domestic Preparedness, U.S. and foreign militaries, leading medical schools such as Mayo Clinic, Harvard, UCLA, Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai, and Stanford.

PLEASE NOTE

Submission of an incomplete application may delay the Board’s acceptance of your application in time for you to take the exam on the date you desire.

At the end of the application you will find a checklist detailing the items you need to attach to the application in order for your application to be considered complete. Please review the materials you are submitting against this checklist.

If, after a period of one year from your submission of your application, all of the application materials are not deemed complete and the application has not been approved by the appropriate board of certification, your application will become invalid, thereby requiring you to submit a new application and application fee in order to pursue certification. You must meet the certification requirements in effect at the time the second or subsequent application is received by ABPS.
