Welcome to Family Medicine Obstetric Physicians:
The American Board of Family Medicine Obstetrics® (ABFMO®) is pleased to announce this
nation’s first nationally recognized board certification for Family Physicians with
advanced clinical and surgical training in maternity care.
ABFMO was formed to fill a definitive need for family medicine obstetric physicians. It is
important to note, that some of the Board Members of the American Board of Family Medicine
Obstetrics are dual-boarded physicians -- board certified by Member Boards of the ABPS, and
also board certified by Member Boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
and board certified by Member Boards of the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of
Osteopathic Specialists (AOABOS). This is a unique and distinguishing issue.
ABFMO does not differentiate between allopathic and osteopathic physicians and eligibility is
also extended to physicians practicing in Canada.
All examinations will be computer based.
