2017-18 Board of Directors Announced by American Association of Physician Specialist, Inc.

Tampa, FL- The A merican Association of Physician Specialists, Inc ® (AAPS) has announced its 2017-18 board of directors, with Lewis Marshall, Jr., MD, JD, FAAEP, FAADM, as President. Dr. Marshall succeeds Craig Smith, MD who remains on the board as Immediate Past President. Headquartered in Tampa, FL, AAPS is the governing body of the American Board of Physician Specialties®.

“Dr. Marshall’s leadership experience as Past President (2004-05) will serve the AAPS well in its effort to carry out its strategic plan and move the organization forward,” said Dr. Smith.

According to Dr. Marshall, “ABPS’s role in supporting the healthcare industry in determining competency in the medical specialty a physician practices is more important than ever before.”

To be the best, you must measure yourself against the best. Achieving Board Certification in Emergency Medicine by the ABPS gave me the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the art of EM in an objective way. The high bar that ABPS sets for candidates to be allowed to take both the written and oral exam is a testament to ABPS's rigorous vetting of one's ability to practice Emergency Medicine at a high level. By maintaining these credentials, I've been able to instill confidence in my abilities at the department/employer level and ultimately with the patients that choose to seek emergency care at the facilities at which I practice.
