Are You an MD or DO Who Wishes You Had a Voice in Your Board Certification?

Board Certification Voice ABPSIf you are an MD or DO who wishes that you had more of a voice in your board certification, it’s important to understand that you do have options. In fact, when it comes to national multi-specialty physician certifying groups, there are three primary organizations to choose from: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), American Board of Physician Specialties® (ABPS), and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA. Choosing which organization to pursue board certification or recertification from is a significant decision, and you owe it to yourself to fully explore the unique benefits that each group can offer you.

At the ABPS, for example, we have developed a strong reputation for our personal commitment to our Diplomates. When you earn board certification from one of our many member boards, you become part of a community of like-minded individuals who are singularly committed to providing the highest standard of patient care. We offer our Diplomates the opportunity to pursue leadership positions within their areas of expertise, while also giving a voice to the overall community through our ongoing commitment to communicating with legislators, physician certifying organizations, hospital groups, and other stakeholders. Additionally, the ABPS provides opportunities for physicians to share best practices, research, and lessons with their peers, improving the overall standard of care in the process.

If you are interested in pursuing board certification from a highly regarded, multi-specialty physician certifying organization, contact the ABPS today. We will be more than happy to explain the advantages of partnering with our organization and walk you through the eligibility requirements of the member board that oversees your specialty. Our Diplomates practice medicine in all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., and Canada. Also, as a reminder, current Diplomates of the ABMS and AOA are fully eligible to re-certify with ABPS. The ABPS is the official board certifying body of the American Association of Physician Specialists, Inc.®

Patient Care Is Our Priority

Medical organizations throughout North America understand that our rigorous certification standards prove that ABPS Diplomates are capable of delivering the best patient care possible.

When I decided to pursue a full time role as a physician executive it was important to me to obtain additional professional training, education and work experience. Board certification through the ABPS in Administrative Medicine is validation of my efforts and a demonstration of dedication to professional development. We need more physicians to become full time health care executives, knowing there is a board certification option in Administrative Medicine encourages physicians to take the leap from full time clinical practice to healthcare organizational leadership.

The American Board of Physician Specialties has provided me with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of internal medicine through board certification. As a hospitalist, board certification is an expected credential, and hospitals recognize the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) as one of the three standard credentialling bodies for Internal Medicine. Additionally, the ABPS has helped me develop leadership skills as a Board member and Committee Chairperson. ABPS has also helped me sharpen critical thinking skills as a test question developer and reviewer. The Allopathic (MD) and Osteopathic (DO) physicians in the ABPS are lifelong learners and frequently pursue multiple board certifications. I enjoy the camaraderie of my peers in ABPS.

When I think historically, advancement in medicine and patient safety and care has been driven by the diversity of people and scientific thought. That’s what I found at the ABPS and more. For over 60 years that is just who we are. I found a physician certifying body that provides a choice and voice to all physicians ensuring that patients are always placed first.
