ABPS Online Databases Terms of Use

Acceptance of Terms
By accessing the Public Confirmation Database or Online Verification Database, you agree that you accept and comply with the terms, conditions and notices stated herein.  These terms constitute a binding contract between ABPS and you.  These terms of use may be changed or revised with or without specific notice to you and it is your responsibility to regularly review these terms.  If you do not wish to be bound by these Terms of Use, please do not access the online databases and immediately discontinue use of these databases and their content.  The current Terms of Use are effective as of August 17, 2012.

Data Updates
The information presented in the Public Confirmation Database and Online Verification Database is updated on a monthly basis.  The date of last update is provided onscreen for both databases.

Revocation of Access
By accessing the Public Confirmation Database or Online Verification Database, you agree that ABPS may terminate your access to and use of these databases at any time and at its sole discretion.  Your use of and access to these databases will be immediately terminated if you violate the Terms of Use.

Limitation of Liability
ABPS shall not be liable for damages of any type arising from your use of the information presented in the Public Confirmation Database and Online Verification Database including, but not limited to, special, indirect, incidental or consequential damages, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, and whether or not ABPS has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

PUBLIC CONFIRMATION DATABASE

Description of Service
The Online Public Confirmation Database provides a listing of all current, active ABPS certifications held by a physician.  It is intended for use by members of the general public to confirm Board Certification of physicians and this information is intended for personal use only.  Use of this site and the information presented herein for any business or commercial use is strictly prohibited.

This site is not intended and should not be used as a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

ONLINE VERIFICATION DATABASE

Description of Service
The Online Verification Database provides information approved for business use and is valid to meet the primary source verification requirements for credentialing as set by the Joint Commission, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), URAC and other accrediting agencies.

On October 18, 2007, President George W. Bush released Homeland Security Presidential Directive 21 (HSPD-21), calling on our nation, among other initiatives, to “collectively support and facilitate the establishment of a discipline of disaster health”. It is a great testament to the wisdom and foresight of the American Board of Physician Specialties that it immediately set to work and created, within the short span of only one year, an educational blueprint and set of certification examinations, both written and oral, for a new subspecialty of disaster medicine—and it is why I chose to be part this vital initiative and this wonderful organization. This is but one of the many innovative programs initiated by the American Board of Physician Specialties over the years, and why I am proud to support its work on behalf of our nation’s public health.

Far too often, medicine is led by less than 5% of non-practicing physicians taking away and replacing the voice of the 95% of physicians practicing and placing patient safety and care first on the front lines every day. The American Board of Physician Specialties has raised the standards in physician board certification not only in the quality of their boards of certification, but in hearing and allowing for the voice of those active physicians caring directly for patients. Having been a part of the ABPS over the last 28 years has allowed me to grow as a woman leader in a field often wrought with challenges. It helped me and others raise the bar of the standards of care in my specialty, Emergency Medicine, through their Board Certification in Emergency Medicine (BCEM). ABPS also helped raise the standards of care for 21st century medicine through their certifications in other specialties, particularly in Integrative Medicine & Disaster Medicine. Having physician voices heard matters to medicine and is essential in the betterment of patient safety and care.
